Sleepers and starters

QB: Eli Manning, Giants. The Giants are 0-4, but Eli is on a nice run for his fantasy owners. Over New York’s last two games, he has six total touchdowns (five passing, one rushing), largely a factor of Odell Beckham getting back into the mix. We expect the Giants to get their first win of the season Sunday, as they welcome the wayward (and also winless) Chargers, and for Eli to reward fantasy owners who are wiling to start him.

RB: Bilal Powell, Jets. With Matt Forte out again, the Jets will feed the Browns a heavy dose of Powell. When Forte is out, Powell makes the most of his opportunities. Last week, for example, he ripped the Jaguars for 163 rushing yards and a touchdown. A repeat of that performance is a tough ask, but Powell’s a must-start on Sunday.

WR: Randall Cobb, Packers. Cobb loves playing the Cowboys, lighting them up for 22 catches for 196 yards and a touchdown in his last three games against them. Two things bolster Cobb’s prospects this week: 1) Aaron Rodgers is bound to look for him, what with Davante Adams’ concussion, and 2) Dallas’ defense has been particularly kind to wide receivers this season.

Busts

QB: Cam Newton, Panthers. Newton busted out in a big way last week at New England, but we expect a regression back to his form of the first three weeks of the season. While the Pats are still figuring things out defensively, the Lions pass D has held opposing QBs to a mere 12.5 fantasy points per game this season. Newton wasn’t able to take advantage of even the 49ers or Saints, and he’ll post another mediocre stat line Sunday.

RB: Anyone on the Seahawks. With Chris Carson out for the season with a torn ACL, fantasy football owners are scrambling to find which Seahawks running back to go with – there’s Eddie Lacy, Thomas Rawls, C.J. Prosise, even J.D. McKissic. Which one will be The Man vs. the Rams on Sunday? We don’t know, you don’t know, and Pete Carroll probably doesn’t even know. In other words, avoid this mess altogether.

WR: Amari Cooper, Raiders. Since his solid performance in Week 1, Cooper’s been among the biggest fantasy busts of the season. With Derek Carr sidelined, his season isn’t likely to turn around Sunday vs. the Ravens.
